FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 1, 2025

POTOMAC, MD – Julie Yang, candidate for Montgomery County Council (District 1), announced today that her campaign is officially certified by the Maryland Board of Elections for public financing, receiving the maximum matching amount of $145,030. She is the first candidate to qualify for the maximum threshold among all County Council candidates for the 2026 Democratic Primary election.

To date, Yang has received more than 400 grassroots donations from Montgomery County residents.

"Certifying for maximum public matching funds is proof that our communities in Potomac, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and across the County want leadership that can tackle Montgomery County’s challenges," said Yang. “With this strong grassroots support behind our campaign, we're ready to move forward with bold ideas that will make a real difference for District 1. As your next County Councilmember, I will champion policies that open doors, find common ground, keep our schools strong, expand our local economy, and improve all of our daily lives.”

Yang has also earned an endorsement from SEIU Local 500 - the first labor union to make a public endorsement in the County Council races this cycle. Yang’s campaign has also garnered endorsements from current County Councilmember Sidney Katz (District 3), State Senator Brian Feldman (District 15), State Delegate Lily Qi (District 15), State Delegate Linda Foley (District 15), State Delegate David Fraser-Hildago and State Delegate Aaron Kaufman (District 18).
